Can you add hair extensions to the front of your hair?

I know it is possible to add hair extensions underneath of hair, but I have a layer in the very front of my hair that I would like lengthened. You see, my hairdresser just cut a chunk of my hair too short, and I would like to cover that up.

Do you know if it's possible to add an extension to the front of hair, not underneath anything? As many details as possible would be helpful.
